Networks in the Philippines

  • Smart: One of the two largest operators; our Philippines plans connect to Smart and Globe.
  • Globe: One of the two largest operators; our Philippines plans connect to Smart and Globe.
  • DITO: The third national operator.

The network each plan uses is shown on its plan card. Coverage maps change, so confirm on the carrier's own site for remote areas.

Coverage in the Philippines

  • Metro Manila, Cebu City, Davao and other large cities have strong 4G and 5G in most areas.
  • In the main tourist towns (Boracay, Bohol, El Nido, Coron, Siargao, Baguio) signal is generally usable in the centres but weaker on beaches, trails and viewpoints.
  • Signal drops quickly offshore, on island-hopping boats and on ferries, and is patchy in mountains and rural interiors.

Tips for using an eSIM in the Philippines

  • Download offline maps and tickets before every ferry or boat day.
  • Local SIMs must be registered; tourists register with a passport, proof of an address in the Philippines and a departure ticket, and the SIM is valid for 30 days. A data-only eSIM does not give you a Philippine number.

Philippines eSIM: frequently asked questions

How much does an eSIM for the Philippines cost?

eSIM plans for the Philippines start from $1.69 for 100 MB valid for 7 days. Larger and longer plans cost more; the current price of every plan is shown on this page.

Which networks do eSIM plans for the Philippines use?

Our plans for the Philippines connect to SMART and Globe. The network for each plan is shown on its plan card, so you can choose one that suits your route.

How much data do I need in the Philippines?

Light use such as maps and messaging takes roughly 0.5 to 1 GB a day. Browsing, social media and photos take 1 to 3 GB a day, and video streaming or hotspot use takes more. If you are unsure, pick the next size up.

When does an eSIM for the Philippines start counting its days?

Validity starts from the first time you use data, not from the day you buy. You can install the eSIM at home before you travel and switch it on when you arrive.

Do I need to turn on data roaming?

Yes, for the eSIM line. Your phone treats any network that is not your home carrier as roaming, so without Data Roaming switched on for the eSIM it can show as installed but not get online. It does not add roaming charges to a prepaid eSIM. Keep data roaming off on your home SIM.

Can I use an eSIM for the Philippines in other countries?

No. A single-country plan only connects in the Philippines. If you are visiting several countries, choose a regional or global pass that lists all of them.

Does an eSIM for the Philippines come with a phone number?

The plans shown here are data-only and have no phone number. You can keep your home SIM active for calls and texts, and use apps such as WhatsApp or FaceTime for calls over data.

Which phones work with an eSIM for the Philippines?

Any phone that supports eSIM and is not locked to a carrier, such as iPhone XS, XR and later, Google Pixel 4 and later, and many recent Samsung Galaxy models. Check yours on our eSIM compatible devices page.
